ClearQuery Layout / Navigation

This article will show the user how to navigate ClearQuery

Navigation Menu

The navigation bar is situated on the left side of the screen. It enables users to switch between the different features within ClearQuery. At the bottom of the bar, there is a “>” symbol, this allows the user to expand the navigation bar to view the feature names associated with each icon. Detailed descriptions of each feature will be provided in the following sections.

ClearQuery Filter Bar

Located at the top of the screen is the Filter Bar. This is where the user can manually search / filter the dataset as desired. The main features have been highlighted and are described below:

🟠 The Customization Cog: This feature enables users to configure how fields display within a particular feature by adjusting the visibility and display priority. This overrides the configuration set by the dataset owner.

  • For example, if a dataset includes a field named "Time" that is not relevant to the user or their visualizations, they can hide it from that specific feature. The user can also re-enable the field at any time. Alternatively, if the user wants to keep the field visible but out of the way, they can adjust its display priority by moving it to the bottom.

🔵 The Filtering Tool Bar:

  • Filter: Narrow down the dataset by using available fields or data points. The Filter popup provides various options based on the dataset, including "Categorical," "Numerical," and "Date" filters, as well as a "Saved Searches" tab.
  • Save: Allows users to store a defined filter layout and easily reapply those filters in the future. To apply a saved set of filters, click the "Filter" button from the toolbar, go to the "Saved Searches" tab, and select the desired configuration.
  • Alerts: Provides users with notifications based on a defined set of parameters. To add an alert, select the button from the toolbar, fill in the required fields, and click "Save." The alert configuration can be found in the Notification Center, represented by the "🔔" icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Here users can view their timeline, adjust their alerts, and manage corresponding notifications.
  • Pin: Allows users to lock the current filters across various features in ClearQuery. For example, if a user selects two filters in "Automated Insights" and pins them, the same filters will remain applied when switching to "Data Exploration." This functionality allows users to visualize insights in one feature and explore individual data rows/records in another. Note: This feature works across datasets assuming they contain similar fields.
  • Clear: Removes all current filters.

🔴 Keyword Search: This feature enables users to search for specific items within their dataset. Each time a term is entered, a new filter is created. ClearQuery supports both "Include" and "Exclude" keyword searches, allowing users to narrow down specific data points or view their data without certain data points. Note: Case sensitivity may vary depending on the dataset. If a search yields no results, try changing the input orientation to see if the returned results count changes.

🟢 Applied Filters: This area displays all currently applied filters. To remove a single filter, click the "x" within the filter box.

ClearQuery Dataset Selection Area:

At the top left of the screen the user can select which dataset to display:

The dropdown will display a list of all the datasets that the user has permissions to view. To switch datasets, simply click on the dropdown and select the desired one.

If the user wants to set a specific dataset as the default, meaning it will be displayed every time they log into ClearQuery, they can click on the star (⭐️) next to the dataset dropdown.

  • Note: The process for configuring default items is the same across other features such as Dashboards and Insights Canvas.

Once a dataset is selected, the system will show the corresponding dataset tags to the right of the dropdown. These tags provide the user with any necessary information about that dataset. In Image 5, there is a dataset tag of “Sensitive”. For more details on creating tags, refer to the "Editing Datasets".
